Vitamin D

Your sinus issues may just be due to Vitamin D deficiency!

Updated from 15th September, 2013. Wow! This is an old post and almost of the time when I was about to get married. Nostalgic… Anyways, I found a new comment on this post and how the reader mentioned this was a helpful piece of information and she faced the same issue of sinus attack due to deficiency of vitamin D. Hope you find it useful as well.

After like a long time, I am doing a health post. All the credit goes to my friend who had suffered from severe sinus issues for the past 10 days and has embarked on a new research to find out the reason and today she just happened to stumble on this piece of information!

So, what she says is something like this. Vitamin D deficiency is perhaps the reason for most of the respiratory issues, PCOD and even infertility. But, today we are going to focus on sinusitis. (Source)

Basically, any respiratory issue gets inherently triggered by Vitamin D deficiency like asthma, sinus, etc. Also, the surgeries prescribed for sinus issues do no good. What happens is that when infection gets triggered, the sinus cavities get filled and blocked and they are not able to drain the mucus.

Also, if you are prescribed antibiotics, please remember that they are not the preferred solution. Why? Because one is never sure what triggered the infection – bacteria, virus or if its a fungal infection. If the mucus is tested, a proper treatment can be given.

All the rush and indecisiveness of the 20s are way behind you and it is time to face the adult life. The first thing to take stock of is your body. Your body is changing and slowing down. Time to listen to it and respect it. So, here are a few tips to make your life and health post 30 easy.

How to take care of Health post 30?

Keep an eye on your Bone Health and Muscle Mass

Though it is projected for women more, the bone density of men also suffers once they hit 30. So, man or woman, it is time to increase your calcium intake and exposure to sunlight. Keep an eye on those vitamin D levels to keep stress and fatigue away, and to ensure proper absorption of calcium.

Just like your bones get old and frail, so do your muscles lose their mass by almost 5% every decade. Health post 30 is not exactly a cake walk so make sure to would include physical activities and variance in your workout routine every 4-6 weeks, so that your muscles do not get used to the same movements and go through a little variation now and then.

How long do you sleep? {Your Opinion}

sleep

So, again a fun time 🙂 Yup, I know we are all lazy bums (except those who are really active all day long, kudos to you) who totally love sleeping!! So, what has been happening recently is that my sleeping time is getting stretched way beyond the permissible limits of 8 AM and I am getting late to work every day!!! No, I am not sleeping late either. I am going to bed by 11:45 PM at max. And, whenever I get up before 9 AM, I have a hang over and feel sleepy and tired everyday.

Generally, everyone’s bodies have their own sleep requirements and need respective hours of sleep everyday. Mine is generally 8-9 hours a day and if I sleep later than 11, I tend to sleep more. If I sleep at 9 (sometimes I have to when I get headaches), I am awake by 2 AM which is extremely inconvenient. Also, I prefer not to sleep in the evenings coz it gives me really weird dreams and the night time is entirely screwed. So, I prefer not to stay up late.

Btw, did you know sleeping more has many repercussions on our physical and mental health.

  • You get fatter
  • You get lazier
  • Your metabolism goes for a toss
  • You feel aimless and without a purpose
  • You tend to get more depressed and stressed

There are just so many reasons for not sleeping into the late hours of the day.  I feel best when I wake up to the early morning sun. Oh btw, getting up early would give you more time to get your vitamin D safely as well.

So, how long do you like to sleep? What’s the minimum time your body needs to rest to wake up fresh?

Vitamin Deficiency and Chronic Fatigue

PSCfy Partner · July 28, 2016 · 3 Comments

vitamin deficiency, chronic fatigue, healthy living

I have been waiting to do this post since ages. Chronic Fatigue is a lifestyle disease of this age. I too am suffering from the same since two years! The irregular office timings, easily available fast food options, lack of time to take care of health, everything culminates into a poor diet and weak body. People hardly have time to go for even a blood test or doctor’s consultation.

Similar thing has been happening to my other half. He had some severe stomach ache for which we had to consult a doctor. She asked him to get some blood tests done. We did everything required but the major issue came when he had to go and give his blood sample after breaking his fast and collecting the reports. Either we would forget or some or the other work would come. It took us two months to just collect those reports and, for the record, the clinic is just 2-3 kms away.

The same scenario is repeating again. I have to get my blood tests done but I am a certified injection screecher and a horrible one at that!! I used to shout when getting pricked for haemoglobin testing. Blood test was a huge step for me. Now, I am used to it but still I like to have someone with me. But, Mr. P hardly has time on weekdays and on weekends we promptly forget our health needs! This when I recalled how Thyrocare had come to our aid a few years back.

Two years back, my father-in-law had booked the appointment for the blood tests collection at our home and the person in charge had promptly arrived a convenient half hour before we all started for work. Thankfully, he was very skilled at taking the blood so it was not much of a hassle. He took all our samples and our reports arrived in two days. We had probably taken one of the Thyrocare Arogyam packages which involves all the major tests. I should do the same this time as well to know the root cause of my chronic fatigue.

Coming back to the real reason behind Chronic Fatigue, any doctor would ask you for a few standard blood tests which you can even get done regularly to just keep an eye on your vitamin and other levels. The doctors I have visited in the past two years have all been saying one thing. There is a marked vitamin deficiency in people around 25-35 which is causing their health issues. So, which blood tests can you done even without wasting your fee on doctor’s consultation.

Do you suffer from perpetual hunger or nausea? {Health}

Swati · September 5, 2014 · 3 Comments

Sometimes, our healths go haywire and we have no idea!! And, then, we have certain symptoms going on in the body which we hardly understand. When I was suffering from some of such symptoms, I asked my mom for help and understood a little bit about understanding my body needs. So, let me share my experiences.

Perpetual Hunger
This is one of the major problems I found when there was a change in my diet. I am used to eating more of grains and veggies and less of carbs but in between I used to have more of carbs and less of everything else so I was always left with a feeling of hunger even though I would have a stomach full of food.
If you feel hungry even after having a proper meal, remember to change a little of your diet and inclue more of proteins than usual. Proteins make you feel full and helps in controlling cravings. Also, perpetual hunger might be a symptom of diabetes so make sure you get your tests done.

Feeling of nausea
This one is a symptom for high blood pressure, as told by my mom. She also suffers from the same issue. And, you might also be really hungry because of which you might be feeling nausea-tic. Also, nausea is a symptom for migraines and, of course, pregnancy.
Going to bathroom continuously
This is one thing which again I found is quite annoying when there is a diet change. Remember that this might also be due to excess of fluids and also, it might be a symptom of, again, diabetes.
Joint Pains or Body Pains
This can be due to extreme weakness or lack of Vitamin D or even due to improper nutrition. So, you might really want to look into what is bothering your body.
So, these are few of the symptoms I can remember on the tip of my fingers. Do take care of your health and learn to listen to your body. And, do not forget to go to a doc!
Have you ever faced such symptoms?

I am also deficient in Vitamin D!! {Health}

Swati · July 8, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Guess my surprise on hearing this!! When all the while I used to marvel at how someone can be deficient in the most available vitamin, I found out that I am one of the lot. Like one of the reader mentioned in her comment, my Vitamin levels are almost at 3-4 out of the scale of 30. I came to know of this when I got my complete blood test done. But, I have yet to consult a doctor on this!!

Vitamin D deficiency has become so prevalent now. Even my FIL suffers with the same and apparently someone told him that his knee pains are due to the same reason. In fact, my boss was diagnosed with extreme low levels of Vitamin D and was given shots for it. And, since then, he has been feeling much better with high levels of energy and lesser other health issues.
Now, if you feel tired all the time or drowsy and suddenly start feeling a lot of joint pains and aches, you might want to go to a doc and get yourself tested for Vitamin D. Of course, do not rush to doc right away but analyze how your body is feeling. If you know your body well, you will know when something is wrong with it.

Have you been tested for Vitamin D?

Is rheumatoid arthritis hereditary? {Your Opinion}

Swati · September 10, 2012 · 13 Comments

I would request you all to please answer the question in case you know any doctor, you are a doctor or you have any one in your family or friends with such cases. I need some information regd. this disease.
For the uninitiated, rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disease which occurs mainly in the joints but not necessarily restricted to it. The cause of the disease is as of yet unknown but a mistaken identity flares up the disease. The white blood cells start killing the body’s own cells thinking them to be foreign substances. In case of rheumatoid arthritis, they mainly attack the joints.
Apparently, according to wiki, low levels of vitamin D can also trigger this disease. For those who do not know, Vitamin D is extremely important to prevent any disease related to the bones. So, if you are getting less of Vitamin D, I would suggest you to eat a balanced diet and get good dose of sun everyday. Also, deficiency of calcium leads to arthritis so better to get a good dose of it. Waiting for your comments 🙂
