SOS Organics Wild Mint and Herb Garden Handmade Soaps {Product Review}

Swati · September 9, 2012 · 7 Comments

Wild Mint

Price: Rs 80 for 100gms
Ingredients

I know the print is totally illegible so I shall put it down here – coconut oil, vegetable oil, lye, peppermint, rosemary essential oil, nettle leaf powder

the swirls had nettle leaf powder on them so the soap was little scrubby as well but not harsh or even enough!!
Pros
this one feels really really cool, perfect for hot summers!!! In fact, whenever I used this soap, my skin was cold 😀 you would understand what I am saying if you know the peppermint coolness like you get when you eat Polo or any other mint!
wasn’t very moisturizing but not drying either!
Cons
expensive coz it does melt away in 20 days for one person!!
would love to know what exactly is the vegetable oil they use!
Herb Garden

Price: Rs 80 for 100gms
Ingredients

Pros
after using the Wild Mint, this one didn’t really make a mark!
decent soap with moisturizing properties!!
Cons
again expensive coz it melts super fast but there is a way to use handmade soaps and that should be followed stringently. Check the tip here (at the end of the post).
Availability
Natural Mantra (recently hiked their prices because of shipping costs but I do hope they bring them down soon!)
SOS Organics (you can order from their site directly but minimum order is 500 and no COD)

Interesting Fact: I would also love to bring to your attention the fact that the soaps sold by Earthy Goods are manufactured by SOS Organics only. Check out my reviews on their soaps as well 🙂

Earthy Goods Vanilla Patchouli Indulging Handmade Soap {Product Review}

Swati · July 8, 2012 · 11 Comments

Price: Rs 95 for 100gms (approx.)

Ingredients

Pros
– smell is incredible and uplifting.
– moisturizing and doesn’t leave the skin stretched.
– love that its a natural soap and has amazing ingredients.
– feels luxurious 🙂
Cons
– Palm Oil comes from Palm trees which are getting endangered.
– I don’t know if the ingredients are organic.
– melts very soon 🙁
– the sandalwood powder on one face of the soap bar is very scratchy!!!
My Experience

I love their soaps. They are amazing, moisturizing and smell awesome while they last. My dad also fell in love with the soap. But, yes, one side of this soap has vanilla swirls which are topped with sandalwood powder or may be vanilla bean powder too (it felt like that to me). But, its pretty scratchy on the skin 🙁
Otherwise, I would recommend all the Earthy Goods soaps. You should definitely check them out!! I am in love with handmade soaps and am not gonna switch back to the commercially available ones anytime in the future now. Yes, the only problem with handmade soaps is that they melt very easily 🙁

Skin Care for Brides {Bridal Files}

Swati · March 11, 2012 · 4 Comments

As a second post in the series, nothing is more important than how to take care of the skin for the ultimate D-Day. And, I am not talking only about the face but also of the entire body. Surely, you wouldn’t want your hands to look dry or feet to look cracked. So, this is a just a start up on that series.
Moisturize well
Dry skin always gets dark and dull and its your special time so you can go any lengths to invest in products. Get a good moisturizer and moisturize yourself well day and night. Especially, now. The weather is changing and it takes toll on the skin.
Dry Brush
Another of amazing saviors. It helps me fight excess weight, fat accumulation, improves blood circulation and makes my entire body glow. I would definitely advise you to get the Catus Brush from TBS but yes, its expensive so you can choose some of the lesser priced ones too. But, let me tell you that the cactus (I don’t know if its really cactus, though ;P) bristles are more likely to prove more useful than flat brushes.
Soaps and Scrubs and Masks and Other Treatments
Ok, if it was my marriage, I would most definitely invest in the charcoal range of Lush. Its a dark desire 😀 Seriously, the range fascinates me with its face cleanser and body scrub. But, I am not too fond of Lush soaps to be honest. I have used one and didn’t really like it. So, if I were to advise you, I would say Earthy Goods has good soaps at lesser prices and Rustic Art soaps are little expensive but equally good.
Regarding masks, no harm in trying out Lush coz I have never tried. The only issue is you should be able to finish them before they expire otherwise your money goes down the drain 🙁 Or, you can try your favorite masks or facials at the salons or even the DIY’s. Btw, if you are going for salon treatments, make sure you go to a good reputed salon and always get a trial beforehand to make sure the facial and the ambience of the place suits you.
Body Massages
Getting body massages is a good idea if you are not inhibited. I personally am so I do it on my own at home and follow it with a good scrubbing session. I really love spending on oils and I recently got the TBS Polynesian Monoi Oil which I had been coveting since long and which is definitely pretty expensive. But, its good for my skin. So, get a few body oils and some EO’s can help you too. [I shall do a post on EO’s separately]
Other things for glowing skin
The usual recital of water, sleep and food and even exercise follows. So, don’t ignore them. Trust me they work wonders when synced with each other harmoniously.
A little tip: Try to sleep by 10. I know its difficult but nothing relaxes body better than that and it helps with many things too. More in some other post.

Earthy Goods Forest Honey Nourishing Handmade Soap {Product Review}

Swati · February 3, 2012 · 7 Comments

Last week, I discussed with you the difference between a soap and a beauty bar. So, the speciality of this soap is that it is handmade and full of natural ingredients for real.

Price: Rs 95 for 100gms.
Ingredients

Pros
– moisturizes the skin and keeps it soft
– made up of natural ingredients
Cons
– melts very soon 🙁
My Experience

It is a really good awesome soap. It is moisturizing and doesn’t let your skin dry. In winters, I went without a moisturizer after my bath both at night and in the day time and my skin didn’t really feel stretched at all. So, in summers, its gonna be great!!! And, I can definitely say this is one of the few soaps I have loved completely and I do love the ingredients.
Ok, there is one problem – Palm Oil.  If you are not aware, palm trees are getting endangered due to their extensive deforestation so palm oil is being actually avoided in products and its substitutes are being used. Sometime back, Lush also started a “Save Palm Trees” campaign (something like that if I didn’t get it right exactly). So, I would definitely appreciate that ingredient to be not used.

And, I also feel good that the company is trying to do a bit of good for the rural people. And, you should definitely check out all the things they have in their store.
