Dove Elixir Nourished Shine Hibiscus & Argan Oil Product Preview at Perfect Skin Care for you
excuse the mess in the background!!

This is not a review of the Oil. I am just putting my forethought on the product depending on my first use. I have not even washed my hair yet so you are forewarned.

Price: Rs 185 for 90ml

My Thoughts
First of all, let me start with the packaging. That’s something which leaps to the eyes. Yes, it comes in a pretty heavy glass bottle with a pump. Glass packaging makes me really and I mean REALLY happy for the price. Pump makes the product apt for easy usage.
So, whats the issue?? Sadly, just after 2-3 pumps for the very first time, it STOPPED working!!! That was the bad as it is. But, unfortunately, I have more issues with it. Honestly, this looks like a bashing post on the product but I sincerely don’t want to make it so negative.
I thought this was an affordable version of the Kerastese Elixir but unfortunately it has 73% of mineral oil which gives it a very silicony feel which I absolutely hate. I did check out the ingredients before buying but still went with it. But, the pump thing disappointed me a lot!!
It smells different. I don’t know how to categorize it but the fragrance is not strong. It stays for a while in the hair and later disappears. My main worry with the product is the build up. I don’t know if it creates a build up in the long run. It also has Dimethicone.
90ml is quite a decent amount which you get with the price you pay and for one use, you don’t really end up using much so this would easily last a month or more. Also, I noticed that somehow the product disappears after 2-3 hours of application.
I had applied it yesterday and then didn’t wash my hair today so applied it again. I hope I wash my hair tomorrow so may be I can update with how my hair feels after the wash. But, for now, I am feeling I would have been better off without this product.
PS: The post is written on 13th Jan, 2013.

PS2: This is my 1001st post!! Woohoo πŸ™‚

My Hair Diaries – November 2012

Swati · December 5, 2012 · 16 Comments

My Hair Diary at Perfect Skin Care for you
is my hair looking rough or is it the lighting??? I washed it without using conditioner but my hair is damn soft to touch even if its not looking like that!!

Oh my gosh!! I can’t really believe the year is coming to an end and yeah, I know I am gonna bore you with the countdown. I don’t know why but something is in the air and its exciting and its making me happy even without me knowing what’s there!!

Yeah, I am really weird!! So, lets cut the crap and proceed with my hair diary. Honestly, I am very happy with my hair this year and the way I have maintained my journal. I hope it has been of help to you as well.
What did I do in November?

  • No DIY – Honestly, I have not done any DIY on my hair in terms of hair masks and I have mostly used all kinds of products on my hair but these days, its so soft and heavenly to touch. I truly love my hair with all its faults.
  • DIET – Ok, one thing which has helped my hair is DIET. Very, very important to eat properly. I am not on a weight-loss regime and I haven’t started eating healthy. If you remember, I had mentioned that my diet had suffered a lot last year and it showed on my face, my body and my hair as well. Yes, it is very important to eat healthy and breakfast is important. I shall do a post separately on it.
  • Hair Cuts – Another thing is I have had a lot of hair cuts this year. One very important observation I have made is that I have had a lot of split ends this year even with regular hair cuts. The only difference between this year and last year is the homemade hair masks and deep conditioning treatments I had done on my hair. So, I can positively say that JUST oiling and regularly conditioning and using an SLS free shampoo is not gonna help your hair at all. Deep conditioning and homemade hair masks do help. Since, I haven’t used any professional salon range products, I can’t say if they help or not.
  • I have started to use Jojoba and Grapeseed oil for hair growth but its been just two or three times I have used so obviously can’t say!!
  • I have been very regular this month with oiling and washing regime both in Delhi and Hyderabad. I have been using more or less many products on the hair but it hasn’t suffered πŸ™‚

Products Used

  • Hair Oil – Auravedic Restructuring Hair Oil + Kamini Hair Oil + Mom made + The Body Shop Polynesian Monoi Oil
  • Shampoo – Kamini Shampoo
  • Conditioner – L’Oreal Total Repair 5 + Liz Earle Botanical Shine Treatment + Dove Nourishing Oil Care Conditioner

I used Kamini hair oil and mom made oil at Delhi and finished Auravedic one this month and before last wash this month, I used Polynesian Monoi Oil (review coming soon). I am totally loving Kamini shampoo, in fact!!

My Hair Diary at Perfect Skin Care for you
this time I used the conditioner and leave-in as well and that’s my messy side-braid night look πŸ˜€

It really keeps my hair soft and prevents dryness. And, not loving the conditioner but finishing it πŸ™ I am also starting to use the Dove Nourishing Oil Care Serum from this month.

Some Random Product Reviews – Part II

Dove Go Fresh Face Wash
Dove Go Fresh Face Wash at Perfect Skin Care for you
Price: Rs 150 for 100gms (approx.)

My Experience
The product is pearly white in color and smells really orangey and fresh. It is specifically for oily skin so in the yes, it did give me dry patches when I was in Delhi. But, in Hyderabad, its going on fine.
Its not making my skin dry or stretched or anything. But, it doesn’t do anything for the blackheads. Its specifically for summers, what I felt and anyway my skin is combi-dry so probably not a good product to suit me.
Lass Naturals Rose & Honey Soap Free Face Wash
Lass Naturals Rose & Honey Soap Free Face Wash at Perfect Skin Care for you

Price: Rs 135 for 100gms (that’s approx!)

My Experience
Ok, so this is an unheard brand for many of you but it has been there on my shelf and in the market for quite a long time.  have in fact used this product long long back in January. But, its a worth mentioning product.
It smells of roses and the ingredients are all natural or would say skin-friendly and it has Sodium Benzoate for preservative for those who don’t like parabens for whatever reason!!

Lass Naturals Rose & Honey Soap Free Face Wash at Perfect Skin Care for you

Anyways, getting on to the product, its thick and gelatin-y in texture. It foams decently and cleanses really well. It doesn’t dry the skin and leaves it soft enough and didn’t stretch my skin in that winter month.
It lasted me for a month so the price and quantity is decent. The only issue I found with the brand was that the packaging wasn’t good at that time. But, I think they would have improved on that by now. I would definitely say that its a good product to try out!!

Auravedic Restructuring Hair Oil with Bitter Orange and Lemon

Auravedic Restructuring Hair Oil with Bitter Orange and Lemon at Perfect Skin Care for you

Price: Rs 250 for 100ml

My Experience

Auravedic Restructuring Hair Oil with Bitter Orange and Lemon at Perfect Skin Care for you

Auravedic Restructuring Hair Oil with Bitter Orange and Lemon at Perfect Skin Care for you

I don’t really have much to say about this oil, unfortunately πŸ™ It was a very thrilling buy for me but the product turned out to be really flat. Its a thin colourless oil which smells of lemon, more or less.

It is light so should be washed off easily but the problem is that I apply a LOTT of oil so it didn’t get washed off completely which was a surprise for me!! As such, I didn’t find it do anything special for my hair, either!!!

Do all shampoos work for me? {Hair Care}

Swati · August 23, 2012 · 12 Comments

Yeah, I know. Its a weird post but this is in reply to a really funny comment I got one one of my posts yesterday. So, the anonymous writes:

All shampoos give u good results?? Dove also kamini also Pantene?

I thought many of you might have the same question so I would rather do a post on it. Well, actually my hair type, as I have mentioned countless times is, dry and fine and feels soft to silky depending on its mood. I have colored it once last year and that was a disaster. But, otherwise, my hair generally behaves nicely.

As to all shampoos suiting me, mostly my answer would be yes. My hair doesn’t react easily and result in hair fall. Yes, my hair does get dry and the scalp also feels dry but no shampoo has triggered any allergic reactions and I don’t have any history of dandruff which needs taking care of. When talking about shampoos, let me start with ones I used this year.

Dove Nourishing Oil
It was drying for my hair but initially it was fine. The conditioner does a good job of preventing the dryness. But, why I said it worked was because of my lack of experience with better products. Now that I have used Kamini’s shampoo, I know how some shampoos can be non-drying. So, yes, this shampoo is not for dry hair but it did not dry out my scalp excessively and my hair behaved decently when I was using it.

Pantene Total Damage
Yes, it suited my hair because it did not cause my hair to get dry really soon. And, no itchiness either. Its, in fact, a good shampoo and the conditioner is even better.

Dove Color Rescue
Definitely drying!!! And, I have recommended it for only oily hair.

Kamini Shampoo
Yes, it suits me but it does dry out my scalp and hair sometimes. That is why I am searching for some shampoo whose ingredients I am aware of and is natural as well.

Those were the shampoos I tried out in my recent memory and more or less, I did like all of them. But, one thing I would say is that whatever shampoo you use, never ever skip on conditioner. Its very essential even if you have oily hair.

Find products which suit your hair type but never skip on the essential routines.

Also, please note that a person’s reaction to a product changes over time and may not remain same always whether the person is a blogger or a reader πŸ™‚

Dove Color Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner {Product Review}

Swati · August 7, 2012 · 16 Comments

Shampoo

Price: Rs 130 for 200ml
Ingredients

Pros
– not very harsh on hair
– does clean the hair really well in even one go
Cons
– has SLS
– can be drying for dry hair types
My Experience
The product is pearly white and cleanses very nicely. It removes all the oil in almost one go unless your hair is dripping with oil. Its not exactly harsh on hair and I found it to be less drying than Dove Nourishing Oil shampoo. What else should I say?
Conditioner
Price: Rs 72 for 90ml
Ingredients

Pros
– very light so doesn’t weigh down the hair
– makes the hair soft
– adds a bit of shine
Cons
– probably doesn’t really do anything for the hair except for making it shiny
My Experience
As I mentioned above, the consistency of the product is light and very creamy so it spreads easily on wet hair. If you keep it less than a minute. it doesn’t really do anything for the hair but around even a minutes is enough to make the hair soft and shiny.
Don’t know how much it does for the colored hair coz its not exactly a deep conditioning or damage repair product (colored hair is dry and might be damaged in some cases). Also, I don’t think it really made my year old colored hair glowing or soft.
Overall Verdict
But, then, to do justice to the product, my hair color is pretty old and I have done a lot of things to my hair since then as part of various treatments. Overall, the range is worth a try.

My Hair Diary – March 2012

Swati · April 3, 2012 · 5 Comments

What did I do in March?
  • I have been using Rosemary EO since two months. As to how much its working, I am still unsure but I do definitely think its helping but as I said earlier, its too soon to say anything definite.
  • And, as I promised in my last post, I did research on the essential oils to stimulate hair growth so some of the essential oils I have added to the stack are: Ginger, Cinnamon, Cedarwood, Lavender and Patchouli.
  • Also, I got cocoa butter for myself because I wanted to use it as a hair mask to soften my hair and keep it moisturised as a weekly treatment.
  • So, I made myself a DIY mask adding hair oil to the cocoa butter but its been two times I have used, the mask so I am not sure how well it is working. So, when I spend a little more time using this mask, I shall post its recipe too πŸ™‚
  • Also, I would add a word about both the oils I am using – Biotique and Kama. They are both amazing and really good. I shall publish the reviews after I finish with the product but this is just a word on them.
  • And, my split ends have grown to huge extent so I gave myself a hair cut in March and again, I shall do it today. Yes, I can trim my hair on my own πŸ™‚ It saves a lot of money and hair length too :O
Products used in March
  • Shampoo – Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo
  • Conditioner + Leave-in Treatment – Sunsilk Dual Treatment Shots
  • Hair Oil – Biotique Flame of the Forest + Kama Ayurveda Brigandi
  • Combs – The Body Shop Detangling Comb

My weekly hair routine {Hair Care}

Swati · November 27, 2011 · 6 Comments

I have been trying to take care of my hair since quite long and have been trying to keep a sustaining routine. This is what I do weekly.
  • Since my hair is curly and dry, I wash my hair only twice a week unless I go out somewhere in the dirt and pollution and specially in the day time or afternoon. Generally, I do not go out so my limit of shampooing twice weekly. Remember my article on how often should you shampoo hair?
My Weekday’s Routine
  • On the weekdays, when I wash my hair, I oil my hair and try to give it a hot oil treatment. At the very least, I try to cover my hair with shower cap and cover with a scarf for extra heating.
  • If not so elaborately, I do heat the oil and then apply it on the scalp and generally massage my scalp for 15-20 minutes while watching something on the television.
  • Then, I leave the oil overnight and wash my hair next day.
  • I do try to massage my scalp every night but I am not so very regular with it.
  • And, I give my hair a trim once in every two months. I do it on my own generally to avoid spending so much of money!!! But, twice in a year, I do prefer to go to a salon for a good hair cut. That reminds me of my next hair cut πŸ™‚
Washing and Conditioning
  • I use a dollop of shampoo and mix it with a fist full of water and dilute it.
  • I wet my hair thoroughly with water and then, apply the diluted shampoo to my scalp and massage the scalp for sometime.
  • Then, wash it off an follow with the shampoo second time if I have oiled my hair otherwise once is enough.
  • After washing my hair, I squeeze the extra water from the hair and then, I apply a good amount of conditioner on damp hair and keep it on for 3-5 minutes minimum.
  • After that, I wash my hair thoroughly, obviously, and remove all traces of the conditioner.
  • I generally air-dry my hair. I use the towel to squeeze out all the water from my hair and gently wrap it in the towel for sometime to catch all the dripping water. This is something I do in the winters where as in summers, I leave my hair as it is.
  • I use a cotton towel instead of a turkey towel as the turkey towel is more fluffy and can cause the hair to dry out more than the cotton towel. And, I use a separate towel for my hair – the cotton ones which are extremely thin.
  • Anyways, after that I run a drop or two of the hair serum through the damp hair and since my hair is curly, I prefer to detangle my hair when it is 80-90% dry instead of letting it dry completely. The dampness helps the hair to detangle easily as compared to completely dry hair.
My Weekend’s RoutineΒ
  • I do try to do a weekly deep conditioning treatment as my hair is dry, curly and thin and they get rough and dull very easily so I have to take care of them pretty regularly.
  • In the summers, I prefer to use home remedies like eggs and curd and such things but in winters, I am using the hair masks.
  • But, I do not apply the hair masks on the scalp so I use the aloevera gel for my scalp. And, I keep the conditioning treatment for an hour minimum and wash off my hair.
So, this is my weekly hair care routine. Nothing elaborate but it helps keep my hair soft, shiny and manageable and routine hair cuts ensure no splits.
Products I am currently using for hair:
  • The Body Shop Detangling Comb
  • Rogan Badam Shirin Almond Oil
  • Dove Nourishing Oil Care Range
  • Pantene Total Damage Care Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Neutrogena Deep Clean Conditioner
  • Biotique Bio Almond and Cashew Fresh Replenishing Serum
