Skincare Brands I Love

Swati · October 9, 2020 · Leave a Comment

luxury beauty products
Some of my Favorite Products!

Well, I have loved skin care and trying out new skincare brands and their products and will probably continue to do so though not with the same fervor. In my 20’s, I wanted to try out all the new things. Now, my life is settled into a more mellow pace and combined with my need to enjoy what I apply and to compensate for my laziness, my list is limited to only serums and body butters.

I have never been a big fan of applying too many products but I did practice it religiously for sometime. Later, I cut out creams from my routine, slowly got rid of exfoliants as they started hurting my skin and now I have not applied any face mask for probably more than two years.

I just wash my face and apply a serum. I have even cut out the fancy vitamin C and hyaluronic acids and everything, for me it is just an all purpose serum which I can apply anytime of the day. That’s why I like to splurge on a good serum and I would definitely like to try out the best ones in the world.

Skincare Brands I Love #1 – Kama Ayurveda

I have not used all kama ayurveda skincare products but I still love the brand to a T. I love their body oils though I am not sure they are any longer available. I love their essential oils. I love their body butter. You really should try it if you have not. And, the neeli brigandi is the most amazing hair oil I have ever used. You can skip the face wash and shampoo and conditioner and even day cream for that matter. But, do give their night cream a try if your skin is prone to dryness. Absolutely worth it. And, the vetiver water is heavenly. Whew! Absolutely loyal to the brand. And, no I am not getting paid for this.

Skincare Brands I Love #2 – L’Occitane

The most amazing brand I have tried and yes this is pricey. Almond shower oil, shea body cream, the divine serum, all of them are sooo good. Worth every single penny I spent on them. If you do want to try out something really luxurious, definitely give this brand a try. This is closest you can get to at-home spa.

The Body Shop Hemp Range - Lip protector, Hand Cream and Foot Protector
The Body Shop Hemp Foot Cream which is great as Hand Cream as well!!

Skincare Brands I Love #3 – The Body Shop Spa Range

Okay, not a big fan of body shop but it stays on my radar somehow. In fact, sometimes I end up not liking the brand as a whole even. But, love their spa of the world body butters. They smell amazing and are simply great on skin. Great buys when you get them at 50% discount so keep an eye out. And, their hemp range is worth mentioning.

Special Mention – SOS Organics

This is a social initiative by SOS Organics Foundation to perpetuate sustainable holistic living. They sell natural products and do, please, do have a look at their website. Their soaps are amazing. Yes, now they cost twice as they used to cost a few years back. I have been disconnected from the brand for sometime but recently I went back to their website and loved what I saw. They also have non-perishable organic foods and their beeswax candles are just amazing. Really would recommend their products on the whole.

Another amazing product which I have not included in the list above is Estee Lauder Advanced Night Recovery, simply because this is just one product and I do not have any opinion on the brand. Which are your favorite skin care brands? Do share in the comments below.

Till then, Swathy.

The Body Shop Spa of the World Hawaiian Kukui Cream

Swati · October 2, 2020 · Leave a Comment

The Body Shop Spa of the World Hawaiian Kukui Cream

I have been wanting to write about this product for the longest time now but could not since I missed writing it last year when it was still winter and one could use the hawaiian kukui cream. Now that the winter is about to start, this is the perfect time to get this review going.

Gets absorbed easily and stays on skin till the next wash. Perfectly suited for Winters.

The body shop spa of the world series and their body butters are definitely worth trying out. In fact, so much that my father is also a huge fan. Interestingly, my parents spotted these body butters available at 50% and got a few tubs.

As you can see in the picture, I have a couple of tubs emptied out and waiting for my trip to the store for their disposal. You can give all your body shop empties to the store back and they will take care to recycle the packaging.

Mental Health 101 – Benefits of Practicing Gratitude

practicing gratitude, being thankful

The pandemic has not been easy for the best of us. Being cooped up and losing the freedom to choose is a demanding situation. From the change in the work scenarios to opportunities lost and created, the corona has sure taken a toll on all of us mentally and emotionally. In reality, the truth is we do not give our mental health their due. For leading the life you deserve, it is important that you give as much importance to your mental and emotional health as much as your physical health. So, let us begin with something really simple and really amazing – practicing gratitude.

What exactly I mean by Practicing Gratitude?

Just jot down 3 things every single day which you are thankful for. You do this either the first thing in the morning or the last thing at night before you go to sleep.

You can do it on paper, keep a journal for this purpose or do it digitally. Whatever suits you best. This is not a therapy recommended for people who are depressed or extremely stressed. This practice can be followed by anyone. Basically, being thankful is one of the simplest way to increase the happiness quotient in your life. People who are happy lead a better quality of life and inspire happiness in others around them. And, personally, this practice coupled with a few others helped me to gain a better frame of mind over the years and focus on what is actually important as opposed to just running in a rat race.

Practicing Gratitude makes you Happy

In a rush to get things done and to reach the next milestone, we often forget to take stock of our life and how farther ahead we have come from where we had started. Practicing gratitude makes you grounded and keeps you in touch with the most amazing things in your life. Doing this everyday makes you happy, improves your mood and makes you appreciate how far you have come instead of focusing on what you do not have.

Practicing Gratitude improves your Relationships

The more conscious you are of everything in your life, the more conscious you become of the people around you. You realize their significance in a better way and understand how they have influenced your life for the better. In fact, your awareness of human psyche evolves to the extent of understanding their experiences and perspectives. Reaching that stage, I feel, is a huge milestone in itself. When you are so thankful to people in your lives, you consciously put more effort into your relationships which in turn leads them to reciprocate your emotions with the same intensity.

Every single day, three different things and all positive. It can be about you, about everything in your life like your assets, relationships, situations, successes, anything at all, no matter how small.

Practicing Gratitude helps you Connect the Dots

One of the side effect of keeping a gratitude journal is that over a course of time, you will delve into your past, present and future and this helps you connect the dots over a period of time. You realize how the events in your past shaped up your present, what could have been better and what could have been handled more gracefully. You learn from your own experiences because you are taking a moment to pause and reflect. And, hopefully, if you continue in the same fashion, you will carry your learning to a better today and tomorrow.

So, these were my 2 bits about being thankful in life. And, of course, be thankful that you are alive and thriving well enough to come across this article. That means you are doing better than 80%* of people in India itself. I hope you will try out this practice once and see how it works out for you, if nothing else. I would sincerely request you to give it a try once. Even if it doesn’t work, it won’t do you any harm but by not trying, you might miss out on something life changing.

Till then, Swathy.

*Well, that is just a random number but yes it did make you feel better!

3 Reasons Why You Might be Getting Dizzy

why you might be getting dizzy

Have you ever experienced a spell of time when you feel unreal, everything around you feels wobbly? Then, you are experiencing dizziness. The most usual reason is vertigo or if you are suffering from a migraine, you will be prone to feel dizzy. But, there are a few specific medical conditions which might lead you to feel imbalanced and wobbly. So, let us find out why you might be getting dizzy?

Our bodies are really good at telling us what is not right. The only problem is to know your body well enough to understand the symptoms and take appropriate action.

3 Reasons Why You Might be Getting Dizzy

Immediate dip in Blood Pressure

In fact high and low blood pressure contribute equally to feeling dizzy at times but it is more often a sign of hypotension ( low blood pressure ) than hypertension ( high blood pressure ). Less blood flow to the brain causes the lightheadedness. This may be more often when you make sudden movements like getting up too fast.

Low Sugar Levels

Another reason might be that you have not had your food for a very long time or your body is prone to low blood sugar levels. In fact you might feel irritable, shake all over or feel completely unreal. In either of the cases, eating a bar of chocolate, drinking juice or having a bite of a sweet, all of them help. The only way to combat this issue is eating properly and not letting your body stay without nourishment for too long.

Pantene Intense Rescue Shots

pantene intense rescue shots product review

I love Pantene but it is sad that we do not get the same quality products in India as they do in US. When my friend went to US in June, I had her bring back a plethora of products for me. These Pantene intense rescue shots were on top of the list thanks to their comparatively inexpensive price tag and amazing product reviews. So, let me tell you my reasons for loving these shots and why you should get them in bulk on your next trip to US or Brazil.

Pantene Intense Rescue Shots – My Review

The Pantene Intense Rescue Shots are basically conditioners that come in one-time use ampules. The product claims to revitalize your hair in just 30 seconds. Now, I like all the conditioners and conditioning products which have to stay the least amount of time on my hair. I do not like waiting after applying the conditioner with nothing to do and it increases my sinus to have my head soaked wet for longer.

Save Water – And, Not because you pay for it!

save water and environment

Okay, so my biggest pet peeve has to be that how easily we ignore our responsibility to contribute to the society and the environment! Charity begins at home and that’s the same rule for natural resource conservation. Let me talk about water today and I should be the last person to talk about electricity usage so I would not do that.

Let us take an honest look around our house and calculate how much water we could recycle if we make a little conscious effort.

I conducted an experiment to prove my point. The idea was inspired by one of my neighbors but the thought stayed with me. So, for the past couple of months, I have made a conscious effort to collect the water we use to wash vegetables or while cooking and even the RO’s waste.

I started with using the non-RO water to water my plants but I stopped doing that because I ended up collecting all that water but did not have so many plants to water. So, I decided to instead utilize the collected water in bathrooms. And, surprisingly I did not have to use the flush at all.

A New Beginning

Swati · September 4, 2020 · Leave a Comment

new beginning

It has been almost 11 years since I started this blog. And, for the last few years, I have been hanging there by a thread. Always on the verge of whether to quit blogging, I have never really been able to let this go. And, finally after a long retrospection, I have decided to give my blog this space a new beginning.

I lost the real essence of this space.

In these 11 years, I have grown a lot and I have fallen into the bandwagon of writing content for the sake of niche and to stick to the blog’s name and building it as a business. Add the fact that I hate the new wordpress editor. And, somewhere down that line, I lost the real essence of this space I had created. This was my baby, a place to escape during one of the momentous phases of my life.

Do not get me wrong. I still love skin care. I love using the most expensive and luxurious products out there and if I really am in mood, I will definitely write about them. But, before that, I would like to own this space again. I want to talk about stuff which really bothers me on a personal and spiritual level.
